BURSIMUNE®

Bursal Disease Vaccine, Live Virus

  • Description

BURSIMUNE is a live infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) vaccine presented in a freeze-dried form and contains the intermediate, non-cloned Lukert strain of IBDV.

    Indications

BURSIMUNE is recommended for the vaccination of healthy chickens at two weeks of age or older in the drinking water as an aid in the prevention of disease due to IBDV caused by multiple field strains.

    Administration

BURSIMUNE is administered in the drinking water.  The water lines and drinkers should be thoroughly cleaned before use, but do not use disinfecting solutions during cleaning sine the disinfectant residue may destroy the vaccine.  Water lines and drinkers must be free from all disinfecting solutions 48 hours prior to vaccination and for 24 hours after vaccination.

Prior to administration, water should be withheld for one to two hours, depending on the environmental temperature, to stimulate thirst.  Tear off the aluminum seal from the vial containing the dried vaccine and remove the stopper.  Use clean, cold, non-chlorinated water for rehydration of the freeze-dried vaccine as recommended on the product insert accompanying Bursimune.  A stabilizer may be used to help neutralize inactivating agents in the water.  Add the stabilizer to the water at the recommended rate and mix well prior to adding the vaccine.  Provide adequate access to water to ensure all birds have an opportunity to drink the vaccine.

Refer to the product insert for specific use directions and precautions.  Contact a Ceva Biomune representative for instructions on the technique of water administration of vaccine.
